Lecture and Seminar: Dr. Dita Vogel

Economic Explanations for Unfree Labour

Course description:

Lecture:

The lecture deals in particular with the idea of a demand for trafficked labour, as one element in the wider context of the labour market. This model has recently been picked up by the European Commission.

Seminar:

[update 30 September 2013!]

Estimates of issues like unfree labour and trafficking have to be seen in the context of prior use of data. Therefore, participants will take a closer look at some interesting aspects of EU trafficking statistics and their presentation to the media. Based on this work, the final plenary discussion will raise what social scientists can and should do with regard to the use, critique and production of estimates on issues such as trafficking and unfree labour.
