Research Topic: An Optimality-Theoretic Account of the Fula Verbal Morphophonology.
My research examines the Fula verb system of a dialect that has yet to be analysed from the perspective of linguistic theory with a view to better understanding the Fula verb paradigms within the framework of Optimality Theory. It aims to explain the patterns of consonant gradation and syllabification found in Fula, a complex and highly inflectional language spoken mainly in West Africa. The research attempts a description and analyses of consonant gradation, examining the modifications evident in Fula word-initial consonants which past studies describe as following a Continuant–Stop–Nasal pattern.
