Im Rahmen des Forschungskollegs „Europäische Zeiten/European Times – A Transregional Approach to the Societies of Central and Eastern Europe” (EUTIM) schreiben die Europa-Universität Viadrina, die Universität Potsdam und das Forum Transregionale Studien für 2023 ein dreimonatiges und drei einmonatige Stipendien aus.

Projekthintergrund

Das Forschungskolleg „Europäische Zeiten/European Times – A Transregional Approach to the Societies of Central and Eastern Europe (EUTIM)“ ist ein gemeinsames Projekt der Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), der Universität Potsdam und des Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin. Es befasst sich mit Narrativen von Zeit und Raum an den Rändern Europas. Ausgehend von den Erfahrungen in den Gesellschaften Mittel- und Osteuropas werden Konzepte wie „Alt“/ „Neu“ und „Ost“/„West“ mit ihren zeitlichen Grenzziehungen und Verortungen analysiert. Kulturelle Phänomene der Ungleichzeitigkeit werden im Hinblick auf Dynamiken der Enteuropäisierung und Europäisierung untersucht.

Inhaltliche Ausrichtung
Im Jahr 2023 widmet sich „EUTIM“ dem thematischen Schwerpunkt „Internationalismus vs. Kosmopolitismus“. Der Jahresschwerpunkt nimmt Reaktionen auf Globalisierungseffekte und Tempi der Globalisierung in Ost und West in den Blick. Zeitliche Schübe internationalistischer und kosmopolitischer Entwicklungen sollen hierbei genauer untersucht werden, insbesondere in der Zwischenkriegszeit und vergleichend hierzu „1968“ in Ost und West, in der sich kosmopolitische und internationalistische Argumente verschränken.

Aufenthaltsstipendium
Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an promovierte Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus allen sozial- und geisteswissenschaftlichen Fächern, die ein Forschungsprojekt durchführen möchten, das sich mit dem Thema Ungleichzeitigkeit in (Ost)-Europa aus historischer oder gegenwärtiger Perspektive befasst und dabei kleine Literaturen und gesellschaftliche und literarische Verflechtungsdynamiken in besonderer Weise berücksichtigt. Bewerbungen von Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und –wissenschaftlern aus ost- und ostmitteleuropäischen Ländern sind ausdrücklich erwünscht. Bei einer erfolgreichen Bewerbung werden Sie entweder an der Universität Potsdam oder an der Europauniversität Viadrina angesiedelt. Der Forschungsaufenthalt kann zwischen Mai und September 2023 begonnen werden. Sie erhalten ein monatliches Stipendium in Höhe von 2.000 € und Ihre Reisekosten zum Aufenthaltsort und zurück werden einmalig erstattet. Falls erforderlich, erhalten Sie Unterstützung bei der Beschaffung von Visa und Versicherungen sowie Unterkunft. Während der Zeit Ihres Aufenthaltes werden Sie organisatorisch entweder am Lehrstuhl Osteuropäische Literaturen der Europa-Universität Viadrina oder am Instiut für Slavistik der Universität Potsdam angegliedert. Sie sind verpflichtet, während Ihres Forschungsaufenthaltes in Frankfurt (Oder) oder in Potsdam zu wohnen. Außerdem werden von Ihnen die Mitwirkung an einer Veranstaltung sowie die Erstellung einer themenbezogenen Publikation erwartet. Die Arbeitssprachen des Projekts sind Englisch und Deutsch.

Visiting-Term Postdoc Fellowships in 2023 in the framework of the Research College “European Times – A transregional Approach to the Societies of Central and Eastern Europe” in Frankfurt/Oder or Potsdam

 The European University Viadrina, the University of Potsdam and the Forum Transregionale Studien invite postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences to apply for one three-month Visiting Fellowship or one of three one-month Visiting Fellowships in 2023 within the framework of the research college “European Times – A transregional Approach to the Societies of Central and Eastern Europe”.

Background of the project
The research college "Europäische Zeiten/European Times - A Transregional Approach to the Societies of Central and Eastern Europe (EUTIM)" is a joint project of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), the University of Potsdam and the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin. It deals with narratives of time and space at the borders of Europe. Based on experiences in the societies of Central and Eastern Europe, concepts such as "old"/"new" and "East"/"West" are analysed with their temporal demarcations and localisations. Cultural phenomena of non-simultaneity are examined with regard to dynamics of de-Europeanisation and Europeanisation.

Research focus
In 2023, EUTIM will focus on "Internationalism vs. Cosmopolitanism". Within the research focus, reactions to the effects and tempos of globalization in East and West will be studied. We will examine more closely temporal thrusts of internationalist and cosmopolitan developments in East and West, especially in the interwar period and with regard to the seminal events of 19681968 in East and West, where cosmopolitan and internationalist arguments became intertwined.

Visiting Fellowship
The application for the Visiting fellowships is open to postdoctoral scholars from all fields of humanities and social sciences who want to carry out their research projects in connection with the theoretical concept of non-simultaneity in (Eastern) Europe in historical and contemporary perspective. A special focus of the scholarship program ist small literatures and social and literary interweaving dynamics. Applications by scholars from Eastern and Central Europe are particularly encouraged. The successful applicants will be Fellows at either European University Viadrina or the University of Potsdam. The three-month fellowship can start at any time between May and September 2023. The fellow will receive a monthly stipend of 2,000 €. Return travel costs from the place of residence to the place of fellowship will be reimbursed. Organisational support regarding visa, insurances, housing etc. will be provided, if necessary. During the stay, the fellow will be affiliated organisationally either with the Chair of East European Literatures at European University Viadrina or with the Institute for Slavonic Studies at the University of Potsdam. The fellow is obliged to work in Frankfurt (Oder) or Potsdam and take part in at least one public event and prepare at least one publication related to the EUTIM research focus. The working languages of “European Times” are English and German.

• A project description (no longer than 5 pages), stating what the scholar will work on in Frankfurt (Oder) or Potsdam if granted a fellowship
• A sample of scholarly work (maximum 20 pages from an article, conference paper, or dissertation chapter)
• The names of two researchers who can serve as referees (no letters of recommendation required)
• Location, where the fellowship will be carried out (Frankfurt (Oder) or Potsdam)
