This course is designed to provide an overview and introduction to qualitative research methods in social sciences by giving emphasis on different approaches, key features and different methods of collecting and analyzing qualitative data.
The main objectives are: Providing basic understanding of the history and development of qualitative research methodology. Getting familiar to some basic discussions related to subjectivity and ethics in qualitative research. Learning key techniques for data collection including observation, interviews, and focus groups, etc. Developing basic skills in conducting qualitative studies. Learning how to design qualitative research and how to analyze the data.
During the semester students will be active participants of the course and will design and analyze their own small-scale research.
