This seminar explores acts, discourses and possibilities of resistance through feminist and queer approaches. Thanks to their focus on experiences and perspectives of marginalized groups, feminist and queer studies offer valuable insights into the ways in which individuals and communities challenge and contest oppressive power structures, normative ideologies, and social inequalities. In this seminar, we will examine and highlight the feminist and queer repertoires of resistance and its companions such as repair, resilience, care, solidarity, and hope, that pursue progressive social and political change. In addition to various movements and other forms of activisms, we will discuss diverse venues of cultural expression and creativity that offer possibilities for resistance and repair such as art, visual and popular culture, social media, audiovisual media, and aesthetics of the everyday. In doing so, we will pay attention to the small, subtle, and often overlooked acts of everyday resistance as well as public resistance of movements. In this seminar, we will also gain insight into interdisciplinary, intersectional, reflexive and innovative research methods that are cultivated by feminist and queer epistemologies and methodologies such as engaged ethnography, autoethnography, participatory research, and visual and digital storytelling.
