ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The binational conference of the universities Frankfurt/Oder, Torun and Poznan “Embodiment, cognition and language” will be launching an upcoming series of events that shall bring together people interested in studying language use in various contexts and from diverse theoretical and empirical perspectives.
In 2010 the interdisciplinary research network “Dynamic Multimodal Communication” (DMC) was founded as a collaboration between the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the VU University Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam.
On the basis of this network, the conference organizing chairs for Language Use and Applied Linguistics (Nicole Richter) and for Language Use and Multimodal Communication (Cornelia Müller) would like to initiate a series of conferences and joint workshops within the range of “Language, Media, Communication”. The aim of the series is to address issues on the borders of vocal and bodily language, face-to-face communication, and media communication. The topic of our first conference is “Embodiment, cognition and language”.
The mission of the Viadrina University is to enhance collaboration and cooperation with its neighbouring countries. Given that mission, participants’ expenses will be covered thanks to a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supporting scientific networking between Germany and Eastern Europe.
