Claims for an opening of historiography towards a global perspective dominated scholarly dialogues in the last decades. The discourse is shaped by a variety of different understandings and definitions making it increasingly difficult to identify methods and categories of the global history approach. The seminar aims to introduce students to methods and theories of global history. We will identify the historic discourses leading to the claims for a global perspective as well as the different definitions and approaches that shape the discipline. The goal is to acquaint students with key texts and thinkers of global history and to encourage the application of a global perspective in historical research.
