Student representation of the Faculty
General information
The Faculty's student representatives represent your interests on the Faculty Council, the examination board and in appointment procedures. We bring your perspective to decisions on study programmes, teaching and professorships and campaign for fair study conditions. We look forward to hearing from you! Feel free to write to us: studvertretung-kuwi@europa-uni.de.
Student representation on the Faculty Council
The Faculty Council is the Faculty's central decision-making body. This is where important issues relating to studies and teaching are decided - such as the introduction or modification of study courses and the appointment of professorships. Students are also represented on the Faculty Council and actively contribute their perspectives to the decision-making processes. In this way, they are directly involved in shaping study conditions.
Structure and organisation of the Faculty Council
Representation of the student body in faculty-related decisions, in particular:
- Appointment of student representatives to examination, appointment and probation committees
- Decision on appointments of professors
- Decisions on study courses (e.g. establishment of new study courses and study and examination regulations)
- Election of the dean and the dean of studies
- Involvement in the Faculty's structural and development planning
- Inputting and co-designing own topics and concerns
The decisions of the Faculty Council have a direct influence on your studies - and students are involved in them
.The term of office for student members is usually one year (October to September)

In addition to participating in the committees of academic self-administration (Faculty Council, Senate) and appointment committees, students can now also apply to participate in the committees of student self-administration (AStA, StuPa, Fachschaftsrat) with 3 ECTS per semester and a maximum of 6 ECTS during the entire degree programme in the module Practical Skills in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences.
Prerequisite: Attendance in the committees and commissions must be documented by minutes. The section of the minutes documenting attendance must be sent to the degree programme-specific examination board within the same semester to provide proof of attendance. The committee work cannot replace a compulsory internship.
Please note that different regulations may apply in interdisciplinary degree programmes. If you have any questions, please contact the study counselling service for your study course.
Would you like to stand as a student representative on the Faculty Council? The elections take place every year in June.
