In our teaching and research, our Professorship focuses primarily on issues relating to the functioning of democracies and other forms of government, exploring the cultural foundations of politics and examining the strategic behaviour of political and civil society actors and its impact on society. Specific areas of focus and expertise include, amongst others, the following:

• Right-wing extremism in the West and East
• Nationalism and populism
• Religion and politics in liberal democracy
• Capitals and state architecture
• Political consultancy

Our comparative analysis focuses primarily on the democracies of Western Europe and overseas, as well as on the young democracies of Central and Eastern Europe.
