Projektbeschreibung
This junior researcher group investigates spoken and multimodal interaction between humans, animals and machines, focussing on on the creation and routinization of posthumanist communicative practices, on the integration of those practices in interpersonal interaction as well as on the negotiation of ontological boundaries between humans and non-humans. Furthermore, the project examines the role of animals in the highly mediated human environment, exploring technologically mediated forms of human-animal communication and animal-machine interaction. In doing so, it addresses the underlying ideologies of language and communication in human-initiated interactions between animals and machines.
The group aims to examine communicative relationships symmetrically, identifying the specifics and commonalities of humans, animals and machines, and relating them systematically to one another. The ultimate goal is to develop an empirically based linguistic theory of posthumanist communicative practices.
Methodologically, the research group is rooted in qualitative interactional linguistic research. In addition to videographic analyses of everyday communicative interactions, the group also employs methods such as participant observation and ethnographic interviews.
