Jeanette-Christine Bauer is a doctoral student in the International PhD Study Programme in Social and Cultural Sciences of the European University Viadrina. She investigates political performance and multimodal communication of political parties. Her research interest is focused on the media and linguistic staging of speeches by right-wing populist parties. In her Master’s thesis, she analysed the appearance of various AfD politicians on talk shows and social media. Her internationally supervised dissertation combines performance studies with the linguistic-gestural multimodality of speech and audio-visual multimodality including media aesthetics. The aim is to identify the distinctive features of right-wing populist media performances. As part of her doctoral studies, she spent a year at the Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza in Poznań (Poland) for a research stay.
From 2023 to 2025, she worked at the Chair of Language Use and Multimodal Communication and was co-organiser of the International Lecture Series of the Viadrina Center for Gesture and Multimodalioty Studies (VCGMS).
Jeanette-Christine Bauer is a scholarship holder of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
